Dante de Rossi, heir to a mafia family in Manhorne, adores his fiancée and is set to marry her, but a month before the wedding he announces that his family has chosen Isobel de Luca, his childhood friend, to bear him a child. Half a month before the ceremony, a pregnancy report arrives showing Isobel is more than a month along, and the bride realizes how fragile their years together have become.
