In 1978 Britain, Arthur Sterling is a 35-year-old physician who runs the White Wing Sanatorium, a remote clifftop facility that claims to offer therapy but actually applies high-voltage shocks and drugs to correct patients' sexual orientation. Behind his rigid discipline lies grief over his domineering father and mother, both of whom took their own lives. His composure is shaken when Elias Vane, a 22-year-old aristocrat, is committed there by his councillor father. Elias uses temptation and provocation to strip away Arthur's defenses, pulling him toward a forbidden desire that threatens everything he has built.
