Emily believes her marriage to Ethan is happy and secure, until his enormous dog Max becomes a constant presence in their home. Ethan presents himself as a devoted, gentle caregiver, but behind that image he uses the animal to frighten and hurt her, turning the house she shares with him into a place where she is always at risk. As the threats grow more deliberate, Emily begins to see that the man beside her is the real danger, and that the true threat was never the animal itself.
