Goldie, thirty and newly done with men after a narcissistic ex-husband, spends her birthday alone with a cupcake and a dating app she resents opening. She wishes to meet the love of her life, and moments later a delivery box on her doorstep reveals Axel, a flawlessly handsome android built to adore her. Though she first shuts him in a closet, he steadily works his way into her daily routines, learning to cook, sing, and feel jealousy while asking what love truly means. Her ex, however, knows exactly what Axel is, and a law requiring androids like him to be deactivated puts his existence before a court. The clock is ticking for Goldie, and the one person who could save her has been ordered to carry out the shutdown.
