Cornelia is a driven businesswoman who has built a steady life with her husband Reginald for three years, and she has chosen not to have children because of a painful childhood. A prenatal checkup, however, reveals that her marriage certificate is a forgery. Reginald has quietly wed Charlotte, the widow of his late friend, and he is raising Charlotte's daughter Cathy alongside her. Cornelia forgives him once, but his continued favoritism toward Charlotte and Cathy leaves her disillusioned and deeply hurt.
