Lia avoids closeness because she fears intimacy, so she buys an AI companion built to resemble her idol, the rock star Aiden. What she doesn't know is that the so-called robot is Aiden himself, quietly living in plain sight. At a party she tumbles into a pool and panics, sure that water will destroy her machine. Instead the man she thought was a robot dives in and kisses her beneath the surface, and the warmth and heartbeat she feels convince her that something about the arrangement is far from what it seems.
