The Girl They Regretted Losing

Tessa has a crush on a boy who, in front of the entire class, tosses her cinnamon roll into the trash and calls her a fat pig. The humiliation stings, and her feelings for him are tangled up with the cruelty he showed her. Her sudden decision to pretend she has no idea what he thinks of her sets up the central tension of the story.
