Night in the Cramped Ward

A car accident lands the narrator in a hospital ward, where a simple favor becomes an unexpected arrangement. To keep their 50-year-old husband company, the narrator agrees to share a cramped hospital bed with the 19-year-old stepson. Lying side by side in such close quarters pushes both of them toward a closeness that family ties were never meant to include.
